IC INFORMATION

Name: Beleth Lavellan
Canon: Dragon Age
Canon point: After the events of Veilguard
Age: 35

PERSONAL INFO

History:
  • Beleth was born to an elven Dalish Clan as a younger twin, and had a fairly typical Dalish upbringing, being trained as a Hunter. When the Conclave was announced, Beleth volunteered to attend and spy for her clan.

  • While there, Beleth heard a cry for help and went to investigate. There she found Corypheus, a monstrous Darkspawn, attempting to sacrifice the leader of the Chantry. She moved to intervene, and the events of the Inquisition were put into motion.

  • The Inquisition.

  • Beleth's choices during Inquisition.

  • After the Breach was closed, Beleth went through the events of Tresspasser. There, she confronted Solas and vowed to redeem him. Leery of the dangers of a large standing army but worried about Solas' warnings of danger in the future, she let the Chantry absorb the Inquisition, turning it into a smaller, more manageable task force.

  • Afterwards, she sent Varric and Harding to try to track down Solas, which would eventually lead to the events of Veilguard. She was not present for most of this, but was kept abreast of the situation and would occasionally offer advice.

  • While Veilguard was happening, she was combating the Blight that had taken over much of southern Thedas, convincing all the southern world powers to combine forces as they fought for survival.

  • Showed up with her advisor Morrigan and Dorian at the final battle of Minrathous to help with the fighting. After Rook slayed Elgar'nan and confronted Solas, she was there to try to convince him to turn aside. When he agreed, she wished him well as he departed through the Veil to end the blight.

Temperament: Beleth strives to be found friendly, courteous, and easy to get along with, favoring diplomacy and building relationships. She speaks carefully, and is mindful of her words -- though her thoughts are often sharper than her tongue. She often holds her own counsel, and will judge whether a situation is worth an argument or not before engaging in it. She will share her opinion if she finds it needed, but has no problem keeping it to herself.

She moves carefully and thoughtfully, usually thinking over a move carefully before making it -- and not afraid to scheme and engage in underhanded acts, if she feels it's called for. Rashness is rare for Beleth, and usually only comes as a result of a great emotional upheaval. It's possible to provoke her into haste, but you have to truly try for it.

Beleth is self-sacrificial to a fault, and will always be the first one to offer herself up. Part of her embracing her role as a Herald sent by Andraste was because Beleth knew that both her companions and her army needed something to believe in, and she accepted becoming what they needed, even if it turned her into what amounted to a religious idol. She does what is needed, and becomes who other people need her to be. Her longing for acceptance and desire to aid others has a tendency to override her own sense of self.

Suitability: While Beleth is no stranger to the depersonalization of idolization, it's safe to say that she will probably hate being here. But I'm eager for her to have a chance to be removed from her role as Inquisitor and try to find herself while still having to deal with all of THIS (gestures vaguely). Also maybe give her a chance to scheme if any scheming is happening.

MUNDANE ABILITIES

Skills: Beleth is a skilled archer, having been trained in it since she could hold a bow. She is able to utilize daggers for close combat, though much less proficiently than with a bow. She has knowledge of herblore and can craft potions that both heal and poison others -- though who knows how useful it'll be with the lack of wildlife. If she does get access, she was also trained as a Tempest, and can use alchemical mixtures that wreathe her in flames or frost, useful for attacking and defending. Without access to the various crafting or weaponry that she relies on in combat, Beleth is left with her other skills -- she is a skilled diplomat, and has an easy time making friends and allies. People tend to enjoy being around her, and she does her best to keep them there. She can, incidentally, also be incredibly manipulative, if she deems it necessary.

SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES

Trait #1: The Well of Sorrows
The only supernatural thing Beleth has going on in her life. She drank from a well that was the collective knowledge and way of life of the ancient Elvhenan, her ancestors. It allows her to speak the lost language of Elvhen, gives her certain insights about her ancestors, and will be largely useless in Neocephalos, unless it turns out that ancient Dragon Age elves are behind everything.
Trait #2: n/a
Trait #3: n/a
Weaknesses: As noted in her strengths, a lot of Beleth's battle capabilities rely on crafting and weapons. Without access to them, she has to rely on her social skills. She's not particularly good at going toe to toe with others, and no one would bet on her in hand to hand combat. She is self-sacrificial to a fault, and will ignore her own desires and even personhood.

GAME DATA

Corporation: Brightstar
Recruitment reasoning: As noted elsewhere, Beleth is no stranger to depersonalization through idolatry. She led an Inquisition which was grown partly due to it placing her as the Herald of Andraste, someone who was sent to prove the Maker still cared about his children. Beleth fully embraced this, even despite her own disbelief in the Andrastian religion, because she knew what it meant to others. In the end, she helped the next leader of the Chantry be elected, a close friend who helped cement Beleth as the Herald. Becoming a figure of worship for Neocephalos will be just another day that ends in Y for her.
